FRY

Andromeda Group is vastly related with the production of high quality fry. The “genetic selection” program currently in place, is constantly improving the quality & performance  of our fry production providing a significant competitive advantage to the company. Part of our fry production is used by the company itself, we input our fry in our production units, and the rest of the fry production is traded to other fish farmers either in Greece and Spain or other countries.

What is the fry?

Selected broodstock are spawning eggs and sperm in their tank. These eggs are fertilized by the sperm  in the tank water. From there eggs are collected and transferred to their culture tank, where they are grown feeding initially on live food (zooplankton)  prepared on site with the support of specialized monitoring methods. This new born fish is the key “material” of fish farming and is called a fry until it reaches the weight of 10 grams. A fry is traded in unit price. As soon as the fry exceeds a specific weight (usually 2.0 grams), it is transferred from the hatchery to the farms, where it grows for a period of 16-20 months, until it reaches the desirable market size.
